Poet-Hawk

Hawks, whether soaring, on the hunt,
or perched sentinel on a tree branch,
are perfect example of undivided
focus. Silent piercing stare
following chosen target as it moves,
unaware of its fierce stalker.

Similar intensity might be found in human
poet, especially during fickle month
of April. Stalking difficult words each day,
coloring emotional images unaware of need
to be spoken. Owning finished missive
through coming seasons because, for one
moment, it allowed us to feel we could fly.

  2. I love the idea of a poet-hawk……and the moment on completion of a poem when we felt we could fly. Beautiful, Elizabeth.

  3. I love this piece, Elizabeth. It is spot on for April. I haven’t written mine yet, but thought yours might give me inspiration. April’s end is looking brighter. ha!

  4. Poet hawk is so appropriate – hunting for prompts and words and ideas, then pouncing on them too quickly and dropping some on the way. Your words I’m keeping for a dry day – I’ve already written three poems today. I hope you’re feeling better now.
