Coloring Life

For Miz Quickly’s poetry prompt day 9: Color Now

Serving In Blue

Coloring Life

When young, I was green
with the need of growing,
waving hands, constantly
asking questions, mostly
getting sighs for answers.

Some might now say, I am
soft blue of my knowing, often
sighing when I finally find
those hard won answers.

Blended, these two may reveal
hue of a far away future, where
I become semi-precious stone,
imbedded in polished silver,

worn on pinky finger of unknown
woman, who like me, just wants
to be known as a fully grown
and fairly good poet.

Elizabeth Crawford  4/9/13

Notes: Thanks for the prompt Miz Q, me thinks I might have a birthday poem in this one. The image is a hand drawn pen and ink drawing which I then manipulated with a kaleidoscope app. I do love colors.

Oh, this is quite wonderful, particularly the first stanza, and I look forward to seeing what art you generate from it, Elizabeth.

  4. A precious stone indeed, Elizabeth!!! I just love where you took us with this…your imagery and descriptions are so expressive I was drawn right into each transition. Thank you for this and also for your visits!! I must apologize…I just recovered two comments from you that were in my spam…the last one you made was not in there though so apparently it has remedied. Again, thank you!

Elizabeth, you are a precious stone, and an excellent poet. I hope your birthday is fantastic. The first stanza is my favourite, because it describes a child’s curiosity so well.

Gorgeous art and poetry for a birthday girl. I agree with Pamela, you are a gem. You make my life richer sharing work with me. It is a reciprocity that runs its threads through so many of us. You my dear, are more than a fairly good poet. You share wisdom with us every week. For that I am ever grateful for this day that blessed the world with you.

I think we are all gems. I favor the opal, far from perfect and it is the flaws that make it beautiful.
Thanks for your visits and kind words.

Elizabeth, I love “soft blue of my knowing” and the shift of colors – and the sighs. A lovely image and a fine poem to accompany it.
