This Poem

5/1/2020

This poem is not being written
because it is the month
for the daily
writing of poems.

That was done
yesterday.

This poem is not being written
because someone said
I should, would, or could
please do it.

This poem is not being written
because of any sense
of obligation,
of observance.

But, is being written
for the sheer joy
at rediscovering
that I want, need, and can

do this.

Notes: Image is the very first template I made to color. It was never finished because there were so many that followed it, begging to be given further dimensions of color and feelings. I did give it a title, however. It made me realize that the impulse to create is forever within each of us and constantly wants to grow and expand. I simply called it “Creativity Zentangle”, because it grew out of an idea to take some of my pen and ink doodles to the kaleidoscope app and see what would happen.
I hadn’t written anything for about a year, when a couple of female poets asked me to join them in this year’s round of daily poems to celebrate National Poetry Month. But, this morning, when I awoke, the desire to write was as strong as ever. The words started dancing, so I did.
