NaPoWriMo 2020: Day 24
Phone rings. Jarring
intrusion on my morning’s
softly floating
reverie.
Not a completely unknown
sprightly, enthusiastic voice
tells me of her concern
for my health
and well-being.
But, before she can begin,
she needs some personal
information.
Firmly say, “No, thank you.”
Then, just as firmly
hang up.
Realizing, once again,
why some of us
actually prefer
the darkness of night
to early morning’s daylight.

Image is a pen and ink repeat pattern drawing. When it was finished I took it to my paint program and gave it a digital background. It is one of my favorite’s in that small sketchbook. I had it pulled up and was mentally playing with different words when the phone rang. I swear I must be on some robo-call list titled “Fragile old woman, lives alone, easily hoodwinked.” And somehow that became this morning’s write.
I dont even pick up if I dont recognize the number….so many scams out there. In one, they ask if it is you and if you say yes, they can then say you approved some purchase or transfer of money………..I think you and I are enjoying our solitude a little too much these days. Cackle. I have just amped up the solitude more than was already there.

I’m loving your drawings, this one is a particular favorite! I never trust anyone on the phone if they ask for my personal information. Just like you, I end those calls ASAP!

Oh, those phone calls. Yes, they are annoying. I like your spirit, Elizabeth.
