NaPoWriMo 2020: Day 10
Perhaps a silly wish
but I long to sit
near a backyard
bonfire.
Watching the fire dance
constantly changing faces,
taking a chance
to break free.
Small sparks of hope
rising in dark night
taking flight
ever upward.
Lingering smell
of smoke that remains
on worn clothing
into next day.

Note: Image is a photo I took of a bonfire in my sister’s backyard. Some of my most treasured memories over the years.
YES! I long to as well. I havent done it often, but I so love a bonfire, the smell of the wood and the smoke…..sometimes I catch a whiff of a beach fire and it is so lovely……….wish we could sit by one together. We can sit by the one in this photo!

It’s been years since I had the chance to sit around a campfire. You’ve described it perfectly! Brought back so many good memories!

I, too, have fond memories of bonfires on the beach in Long Island. Nicely described, Elizabeth.
