NaPoWriMo 2019 – Day 14

A5RKXR Upside down tortoise

Topsy-Turvy

Sneak peeks at what
other poets
are writing.

Seemingly fresh like
Spring blossoms unfurled
already blooming.

While I spend
the night tossing
and turning.

Like a turtle
caught on its back
unable to right itself.

Each turning, a new
dream, next line
I might want to add

to this poem.

Process Notes: Unvarnished truth. Came on to look for an image. Found the tortoise and knew what I would write. Photo from the internet.

I always picture myself as a fat June bug, flipped onto my back, completely immobile! But the turtle image works as well. I want/need to start feeling excitement when I look at an empty page, instead of trepidation and dread! I usually feel like a fraud when I look at other poet’s work. Good to know others have their own struggles. I absolutely believe that making myself write is the best way to handle this. The more I do it, the more comfortable I’ll become. Thanks, Elizabeth!

Marianne, since starting NaPo, I get a bit of the shivers at that blank page. Some of dread, others of possibilities. Some days the muscles of my mind seem to cramp, yet on others they seemingly leap to begin. It is good to be back here, and the misgivings are beginning to fade. And I believe you are right, the more we do it, the more comfortable we will become. Thank you.

    Elizabeth,
This is so relatable. I have been having very strange dreams since we started Napo.
    Excellent writing,, my friend.

    Love,
    Pamela

Actually it’s pretty much reality for last night. My “extended” dream became the poem. Most of words came from it.
