NaPoWriMo 2019 – Day 9

Butterfly Beginnings
Today
I am 73.
Not sure I know
how to be that old.
But learned long ago
how to forgive such silly
misgivings.
Each day will find new ways
to wear this purple mantle
of seeming age.
Forever grateful for my
often childlike mind, still so filled
with laughing wonder.

All good wishes on your birthday, my friend! Bravo for meeting your day head-on with your poem. You most definitely wear that purple mantle you mention well! Hope you never lose the “laughing wonder.” That, more than anything, keeps us young. ❤️
Thank you Marianne. Wonder is a precious commodity because it engenders curiosity. We desperately need both if we are to continue. Both of them have a tendency to lead me to laughter. I’m glad you like the purple mantle. Fell in love with the color when I tracked down its symbolism. It speaks to the element of personal power. I’m wearing some purple today. The child in me is giggling because I’m wearing a t-shirt and the purple rides my shoulders across my back and half way down my sleeves. And no, I hadn’t chosen it yet, when I wrote the poem.

I will follow you in early July, my friend. Yes, our laughing wonder does not fail us, and is the source of deep joy. I love the “purple mantle”. I will remember that image. Have a wonderful day celebrating your magical self, Elizabeth. What an amazing journey you have made.
Thank you Sherry. We old wild women must stick together, lol. And yes, my journey has been amazing. Perhaps more to me than others. I’m sure you would say the same about your own. Being an accepted part of a global poetry writing group was never a part of my dreamscape, yet here we are, and blessed to be. What a tremendous reward for loving that which many don’t understand and are often confused by.
Love and hugs from the Hillbilly,

Elizabeth,
You are only as old as you feel.
Keep your young heart and mind, my lovely friend.
Purple is the color of royalty.
Hope that your birthday was splendid and special!
Love,
Pamela
Thanks Pamela, I would hope to keep them both for a while longer. My birthday was sweet and special, thank you.
