Sandpaper Thoughts

Sandpaper Thoughts

Seems of late
my thoughts
are the texture
of coarse
sandpaper.

Rubbing harshly
against sensitive
surface of emotions,
trying to smooth
beat of heart

troubled
by a world
seemingly
intent on its own
destruction.

You speak so calmly, Sister. I am amazed you have not screaming, and running for your life, like the rest of us.

Great imagery in this one, Elizabeth. I love your second stanza. I’m still hoping for the best for our country, but fear is usually bubbling in me somewhere.

Wonderful metaphors in this piece, Elizabeth. “Thoughts the texture of coarse sandpaper” is brilliant!
