My Ring of Fire
Built it one word at a time,
gathered like fallen branches
then lit with soul fire.
Tended it carefully
each early morning, sometimes
through the night.
Awaiting your presence
that we might speak
share whispers
of soul thoughts, meanings
found that have brought
light and warmth,
allowing each to find
their way through
endless curves of darkness.
And when you rise to leave
I will give you a small
burning bundle,
using what you have given
to feed my own need,
in hope that you find another
with whom to share
this precious, word by word,
ring of fire.

Notes: Image is a photograph of a bonfire we sat around in my sister’s backyard. I put it through the kaleidoscope app and found an endless array of designs of warmth and light.
Ring of Fire was originally sung by Johnny Cash and became an iconic song for those of a certain generation. Passed down, it has stood the test of time, and is preformed here, by a group called Home Free.
