Not A Game of Shadows

Awaken in early morning light,
been doing that a lot lately.
Memory fills mind, dancing
through a past that now seems
no more than shadow.

Remember the eagle, soaring
alone in distance, then slipping
over lip of Grand Canyon,
to play hide and seek
with dawning shadows.

Symbol of freedom, she
moved with grace, surety,
and a definite purpose,
as she slowly wing-waltzed
through sunlight and shadow.

But, freedom is not a childish
game, called out in simple
numbers before being sought
and found in Indigo blue
of twilight’s shadows.

Not to be tapped on shoulder
with laughter and a called out,
“You’re It,” amidst whisper
of chasing feet running through
early evening shadows.

Rather a priceless gift to be
embraced with heart and soul.
Protected, at all cost, with sharp
fierce beak and gripping talons,
from greedy grasp of encroaching

dark, midnight shadows.

YES! Love the image of the eagle, soaring, and, especially, protecting freedom with sharp beak and talon. Wonderfully visual and uplifting.
