For Creativity Challenge Day 12: Writer/Artist

Heart leaps at the idea
that American Vets will come
in numbers, without guns,
to clasp arms, to peacefully protect
the Water Protectors.

Finally, at last, centuries
of betrayal, of broken treaties,
will be turned around in one
act of kindness and kindred
spirit. A light will be lit

that might grow into a fire of warm
acceptance. A simple message will be
silently sent around the world, that under
all of our differences, there is even
more to be said of similarities.

That pigmentation of skin holds
together sameness of heart, muscle,
and bone structure. And a mind
that can encompass the ideal
of true unified brotherhood.

Can smell fresh water of life
that brings nurture to all of us.
Protected by these once opposing
battle forces, standing arm in arm,
in shared belief and compassion.

See green of growth that comes
from solidarity and a unified intention,
there beneath blue sky of North
Dakota, as they stand together
in single service to peaceful protection.

Oh this is a lovely poem. Such hope and love in the arrival of the veterans, come to stand with the brave souls at North Dakota. Uplifting to read this this morning, Elizabeth. Thank you.

“See green of growth that comes
from solidarity and a unified intention” Yes! It is quite a new line-up. May this progress continue.
