Wondering Quandary

Have to wonder about people who insist
on giving power to voice of politicians
that constantly weave a web of fear.

Who search for threads of thinking to spin
to the masses, molesting their minds
with nightmares of only possible futures.

Who beat the jarring drums of hatred and war
until the ability to think clearly becomes
cheesy, impotent, blind to any calm reasoning.

Perhaps one can only curl oneself like a dog
in shaft of moonlight, wrap self around own
sense of truth and softly croon aubades

to the hopeful rising of a sun of peace.

Notes: Normally, I think of myself as a Personal Poet. However, lately I seem to be leaning in another direction. One that is surprising to me, even though I know in my heart that the political is personal and the personal is political. These words simply refused to go in any other direction. I thought seriously about skipping the whole thing this week. But, as you can see, I didn’t. “Follow the words”, they say, and at some point they will take you to the one place you didn’t want to go. Maybe I have finally arrived? Lol… Have been reading Jean M. Auel’s Earth’s Children series. Finished Clan of The Cave Bear and am now halfway through The Valley of Horses. Don’t think, for one moment, that’s an accident. She follows the signs and symbols, so do I, as well as the words.

Image is a digital painting put through the kaleidoscope app. I used all of the words.

Keeping the public in fear is a form of control to ensure compliance. How apt your expression of curling up like a dog hoping that the storm passes over without involvement singing comforting love songs. Once again you have amazed me in using 24 prompt words in your poem.

Effortless use of all the words – it flowed beautifully…and i still picture ‘you’ at the core of this poem…curled up…knowing..creating colour inside yourself in a steel world full of, well, largely idiots…perhaps that is the wonderful thing about having an internal world – when used wisely it is the best defence and pleasure against out there!

Such a powerful flow throughout this poem… the message is such should be spread far and wide.

it’s amazing how all the words you’ve used so brilliantly reflect state of a sensitive mind cringing at the political stupidity of an epic nature….love the image of the curling figure crooning aubades…

Oh, yes, I have to wonder too. It is frightening really, and I hope that ‘rising sun of peace’ arrives before it is too late. I like the idea of following the words…sometimes the words know what the message is before the poet. Smiles.

  10. I’ve been asking myself that question about so many different social issues and “new” government policy. Goodness gracious, what goes through these people’s heads?

The tone of your poem, its rhythm and word choices (yay for great use of your given words!) say it much better than I thought it.

One of my favourites of yours, my friend – I deeply feel and resonate with your words and watch with horror some of what I see on the news these days – the calm voice of reason (Obama’s) sounds weary against the rantings of the terrifyingly unenlightened. How tired he must be these days. I love the idea of curling oneself up like a dog around our sense of truth, and “croon aubades to the hopeful rising of a sun of peace.” Wow. I am gob smacked by the perfection of this poem.

  12. So true.. sometimes we have to write about the truth… and yes growing popularity through hate… there are elections in France today… and hate is there… we have it in Sweden.. and it seems to grow everywhere…
