Me? I’m No Good at Keeping ‘Em.
Here’s the deal: a secret fosters
an uncanny urge to speak it.
Disguising itself as an amber worm,
crawling through imagination, hobbling
any vowel of truth it encounters.
Smothering it’s keeper with dread
should any chirp of its rotten wanting
raise its head to be heard.
Never easy to stop leaning on swarthy
cane of deception, once that path has
been chosen. Even harder, if one is a writer
of poems. For the words themselves
have an eerie tendency to weave a fabric
that resembles the white light of reality‘s
reflection.

Notes: I’m simply enjoying the two word list task. Pic is a digital image created on another Photoshop App. Cross your fingers. With some amount of trial and error, I think I have found and fixed the problem of not being able to respond to comments.
“a secret fosters an uncanny urge to speak it.” Excellent. I have a friend who says it is still a secret if you don’t tell more than three people.

wonderful rendition of the conscious urge to tell all that we harbour in secret – the image of the worm is clever but the amber is a brilliant touch

Aint that the truth – do you find doing all the lists makes your poems ‘tighter’…i too enjoy that challenge! This is as finely woven and wry as can be and fits the image so well it’s hard to find the writ, right word to describe it…damn those thought worms..or thank them!

Secrets are best shared…especially if they are good enough. The proviso being they must not hurt. Poets are lucky though as their words can imply but not necessarily confirm the secret.

It’s tempting to keep some things secret. Just a shame I’m not very good at it!

Indeed it is true, the words weave reality- perhaps without one knowing!
They shine the ‘white light’ on what otherwise might have been hidden from view.

The last thought you leave us with is brilliant. Worthy of reflection, my friend. Your work feels like a response to mine… or vice versa. Thank you for your wisdom.

Keeping a secret is an obligation while revealing one is a betrayal. No two ways about it! How much damage it will cause as a consequence is of utmost importance

Sometimes I wonder if a secret is a secret if only yourself knew about it. I thought it will be called a secret if there’s a pact between the two.
As for the poet’s secret – some meaninh of his/her poems are open to interpretation but only the poet knows the true meaning of it.
Enjoyed it, Elizabeth

Ha, I really enjoyed reading this poem. I am reading a memoir currently where a lie told about a child’s paternity impacted the entire family for four decades………..I am glad you have found the glitch re commenting….I hate having to solve tech problems, it is my nemesis.
