NaPoWriMo Day 19 For Sunday Whirligig #3 http://sundayswhirligig.blogspot.com/
Sanguinary Nightmare
That night he dreamed, seemingly
endless, but steady stream of skewed
images, blurred with a furred crimson
mist at their edges.
Unhappy people caught in a cage,
pulled by their own insatiable hungers
for more of whatever they thought
they needed. Not even momentary
care given to others, or harm unleashed
on world around them. Seeking only
an unattainable bliss in self- created
guesthouse of unimaginable horrors.
Finally, fully awake, he found delicate
flower, blooming on ground beside him.
Soft petals unfolding in moonlight’s
reflections. Immediately understood
that the dream was an unraveling
of meaning behind myth he had
so recently heard.

Notes: Forgot to get the Whirligig words until last night, and was stumped by the words themselves, at first sight of them. Wrote them down and slept with the list next to my pillow. Awoke with the title and first line drifting through my thoughts. It is an extension of the piece I wrote the day before. Happily managed to use all of the words, in one form or another. The image is a pen and ink drawing rescued from my media library, here on site.

A dream can be an insight into some sub-conscious feel not easily ascertained. It may be revealing in rare occasions though not clearly of the particular episode! Nicely Elizabeth!

The dreams are not always the paved road leading into daylight.. It could be a difficult one through thickets and bramble also.

Unhappy people caught in a cage…applies to a lot of people in this day and age. And often the cage is their own making.

The lines that really struck me – “Seeking only an unattainable bliss in self- created
guesthouse of unimaginable horrors”. Wow. I love the closing stanza…….the softness of the flowers, the hope in the new bloom..

It is so nice to wake from nightmares with some comfort. I like that you added that.
Hope all is well with you and yours. I’ve been a tad busy with my grands, and family.
The only constant, being change 🙂
I went in a different direction with the words and an added prompt:

The second stanza could easily be quite an apt indictment on society today, I think!

Are you telepathic, Elizabeth? Your first two stanzas described my night last night. I’ve been disoriented and woozy all day, but managed to cobble together a poem with the words. Yours is terrific.

Wow, Elizabeth, this is really successful creative process! Thank you for the notes, love the deep pondering about people who ‘caught in the cages pulled by their own insatiable hungers’ and happy that finally he found the flower….~ the art just perfection! Love x
