Words :1 – Elizabeth :0
Today, I ran away from the words.
But they refused my most adamant
signals, thrusting themselves
into meandering edge of awareness.
Wanted to punch them down like a ball
of bread dough, but they just kept rising,
buzzing at my ear like a dismal cloud
of ravenous locusts.
Wild horses trampling fragile plants
in my quiet garden of consciousness,
or bullets locked onto chosen target
of rather spotty perceptions.
Throwing hands in air, I conceded,
while they dared to cheer.
Elizabeth Crawford 9/7/14
Yes, they were a daunting bunch this week.

You can never run from words…i think they came through pretty well for you though despite trying to lock them out 😉 we must bake our word cakes and punch the dough…then gather together for tea

Yes, I nearly ran from the words too. However they bent to my will in the end!

Some days, the words win, other days you can beat them into submission. Amazing how you worked those words into the poem, I couldn’t have done it.

They may be triumphant this time but not always. One can bring the words back. There is always the urge to write! Great wood craft Elizabeth!

great sonnet style poem.
Not many people can appreciate a struggle with words.
the emotions they evoke in us,
the battles we wage
with them
and the nerve of these little lettered imps
to personify themselves
and then razz us to boot!
wonderful piece.
I’m printing it put to put on my wall to reread.

No, we must never ignore the words. They won’t have it! But my bigger problem is that often words don’t show themselves to me. And I must wait ’til they decide to reveal themselves.
Lovely poem your words have woven. Hope they keep attacking you.

My response also had wild horses trampling a garden! I particularly appreciate your clever title and the first stanza rings so true…oh, how those words have a way of thrusting themselves into our awareness.
