In The Beginning
Used to be like a tiger
resting on back haunches,
tearing through tattered tomes
with voracious appetite
for various topics:
Psychology
Symbolism
Creativity
Mythology
Mystery
Spirituality
Mysticism
Sociology
Ideology
Philosophy
History
Religion
Fiction
Poetry
(and that’s just the short list).
Written words were a drug
for that need to seek out
information. Scent followed
on breeze of any whim
that captured imagination.
Bathed myself in definitions,
stunned, mesmerized
by these sometimes sultry
letters of seduction,
unaware that this was only
the beginning.
Elizabeth Crawford 4/28/14
Only the beginning of our journey through so many thousands of books. I have always read voraciously too – but now my reading has changed. I only want to read nonfiction, especially memoir – the stories of how others have lived intrigues me far more than anything a fiction writer can think up.
