bones, twice, stolen, water, rocking, open, mess,
aches, bridge, sink, sway, limb, sharp
Preserving Connections
Twice stolen by opposing forces
somewhere in long ago past,
the bridge still stands. Under girded
by mess of sharp boulders, has been
known to sway a bit in really high
winds, releasing soft low groans
like the old timer it is, complaining
of aches in brittle bones, or poorly
knit limbs.
Rapidly running water that bisects
two sides of town, seems on occasion
to rise up in open threat to rock trembling
trestle from its foundation. Trying
to sink it forever into cold depths
of oblivion. In silent accord all town
residents rush to fill sandbags, and with
grit and determination hold together
this single bridge that connects them,
keeps them from becoming
opposing forces.

Is that bridge a metaphor I wonder..old..still standing..aching from what as gone over her..moved past..she should be preserved..all bridges needed to be there..to keep the good things flowing..and the bad things out..Happy Easter to you Elizabeth

How often a bridge is that barrier as well as a link for those on the other side. My guess is that the more well to do would not be rushing to fill sandbags! What a great picture you painted.

I like the idea of the bridge preserving connections, like a bridge over troubled waters, perhaps.

This is lovely, Elizabeth. Water’s force threatens those connections, on its way to the low spots. Interesting what water does with power, without even knowing.
