Uncomfortably Numb

Centered in depression
she seeks only silence.
Puts hands over ears
after being forced
to hear that her actions
are selfish,

Blood-shot eyes
smudged by half-moons
of shadow,
she whisper-asks,
“Why me?
Why now?
Don’t I already
have enough bricks
to carry?”

  1. Pamela says:

Such truth in this, Elizabeth. Beautiful piece of writing.

Thank you Pamela. I have often said that poetry, for me, is a form of therapy. In other words, a place where I can hear my own whining, lol.

  2. I’ve been on both sides of this one. Thank you Elizabeth. There are some things we don’t want to hear. Acknowledgement can lead to awakening. Sometimes the bricks are necessary.

  3. If you have been there, you have my sympathy. If it’s imaginary, you have my admiration!
