Stormy Weather

Winds of Rebellion

Like invisible wind wending through
tall prairie grass impulse to rebel
can hit human psyche. Attempting to bend
will, make it kneel, to whisperings
of strange variety and rhythms.

Could begin as distant call to change
or might emit precise clench-fisted demand
that white picket fence of rigid self-rule be ended,
begging new creation.

Best to remember, like that whirling prairie wind,
rebellion might sing, dance, whimper or moan.
But, whichever form it chooses, seeks only
to be acknowledged.

i think there is a strong connection between rebellion and being acknowledged…wanting to be heard…to no long feel their voices are silenced by the oppressive rule

Being a teenager i know the kind of rebellion you are talking about. We just need acknowledgement. A fight is always better than being ignored.

Great parallel – wind blowing through prairie grass and the need to rebel. I think every teenager should read that, and be reassured.

  19. The White Picket Fence and self-rule, honestly, great stuff. Your view of nature is to be applauded, because if we humans learned rebellion anywhere, it was from Mother Nature… enhanced by the kudzu! Amy
