For Poets United Verse First Poetry Prompt: Truth
http://poetryblogroll.blogspot.com/
Distillation of Truth
When I was in my teens
someone told me I had
a gift for written words.
I dismissed that missive.
Thirties were spent playing
hide and seek with paper
and pen. Not a single clue
what the hell I was seeking.
Poetry found me in my forties.
Astounded by truths between
margins of single page, finally
began my journey.
Now in late sixties, unwillingly
slowing down, while knowing
foolishness of having left
so much unwritten.
Elizabeth Crawford 5/22/13
What a journey!!

Love this poem! I can so relate to the “foolishness of having left so much unwritten.”

They are *all* written, Elizabeth. It’s just that some are not yet put to paper.

Oh, how we limit ourselves! The up side — at least you finally discovered your bliss and worked to participate in it’s process and creation. A lovely poem of personal evolution, Elizabeth.

But, Elizabeth, now that you realize this you still have time…. Preserve your words in HARD copy, not only in the blogosphere. Your words need a greater distribution, and the time is NOW (which is the only time we have).

I’ve been writing poems all my life, and often getting published in hard copy. But I’ll tell you a secret – none of us has enough time for all we might write. ‘The horizon ever recedes from us,’ someone said. We must just do what we can, as we can, knowing that the journey itself is more rewarding than the destination. And we must have life to put into our art! Sounds like you lived your life. I am not saying don’t keep travelling purposefully towards your destination, but do it with rejoicing that you are now on the path and the scenery is so beautiful – and you have so much good stuff to bring with you. 🙂

Elizabeth,
I connect so well with your words and poem. Putting off the inner challenge, but in the end finding great fulfilment:)

Love the way you interpreted this prompt with a journey. As long as we start sometime and don’t stop, the past then no longer matters. Loved your poem.

I think it does take awhile, to figure out “what to write”, what to do with the words that float around us everyday…the truth between the margins, hiding right before our eyes.
