For Miz Quickly’s Impromptu Poetry Day 24: Wordle

wordle slab

In the aftermath,
trying to remain calm
as she explained to stony-faced
cop, how her unexpected guests
detoured around modest,
but boring, array of snacks,
obviously finding more value
in booze at the bar,

the knot of shocked anxiety
furiously transferred itself
from slightly sweaty palms
to pit of stomach, feeling
like slab of cement
as it settled.

You have captured so well the feelings one would have in that situation.

  2. Stan Ski says:

    I don’t know… I was really drunk at the time… 😉

  3. Pamela says:

That is truly a nightmare, Elizabeth. I lost a good friend here, 7 years ago to a drunk driver. Well wordled. Thanks for your kind words today, my friend.

Oh my, this is tragic, Elizabeth. The last few lines are hard hitters.

This reminds me of a story hubby tells…at the only door to the home that was locked was broken into, and all that was taken was the bottles of ‘booze’.

Thank you for your visit. The last ten years especially, my Mother-in-law, just turned 90 this year. But has been slowing it seems at a faster rate. It is she who was my inspiration for the piece.

  6. Mary says:

Sounds like some uncomfortable moments indeed!
