For The Sunday Whirl poetry prompt: Wordle #98

Reserved Flight
Blessed with reserve
which deserved recognition,
when slapped with gaps
in truth, she refused
to be snared, kept in cage
of ignorance.
Silently soaring through blue haze
of owned knowing, always aware
that most answers were seldom
found in burst of first,
single instant,
would instead, ride wings
of inner wisdom, seeking
to unbalance dusty layers
of experienced and learned
memory, sorted and saved
over decades.

Notes: Was ill last week and didn’t participate. But, having turned away once, it is so much easier to do so again. This list of words was particularly difficult to deal with and am not in any way, pleased with this piece. Hoping next week will be better.
The truth is in there…
Somewhere, one can hope, lol, Thanks Stan,

Sorry you’ve been poorly, and hope you’re feeling better having written something – anything. Yours is inspirational – I could do with some of that inner wisdom!
It is so easy to walk away at times. I am feeling better, not great, but better, thanks Viv,

the last stanza really hits me, that’s the sign of a good poem no matter how you might feel about it
Thank you Emma, and yes, you are correct about what makes a good poem,

I think it flows beautifully..almost with the little jars that interrupt flight tucked in there..raggedy breath that must keep going..
Lol, Jae, that’s pretty much how I was feeling ever since I got the list of words: a bit jagged. Really appreciate your reading and commenting,

Inner wisdom is precious. Glad you’re back in pink of health, Elizabeth.
Oh, Irene, I don’t often do pink. Perhaps a bit grayed on the edges, lol. And I have to agree that wisdom is a precious commodity when one can find it. Thanks,
Elizabeth

I really like that you began with blessed… in fact, the first stanza I especially like.
Glad you’re feeling better, Elizabeth.
So am I Laurie, and after several thwarted attempts, that first line appeared, and it was so much better than anything I had, that I felt somewhat beholden to stay with it. Thanks for the well wishes,

Sorry to hear you were sick, glad you are better, have a sore throat myself this week. This work has so much to like….I love “ride wings of inner wisdom…” so beautiful!
Ah, Annell, thank you my friend. I believe you go through life looking for beauty in all things, and because that is a choice you have made, you often find it, where others might not.

I think we are all constantly healing from some mal-ease. Sniffles, sinuses, bonked toes. I do hope you are feeling better. I think you did better than you thought – Wise words do not always have to be served with honey.
Thanks for visiting my piece.
And thank you Jules, too true what you said about wise words.

Sorry you’ve been feeling off. Crazy weather everywhere.
You may not be satisfied with this, but it has some nice sounds.
Perhaps it’s good that I’m not satisfied, it might keep me reaching, lol. March may be the beginning of spring in many places, but here it means a few last really harsh storms. Thanks for visiting,

I like the idea of flight, both external and internal.
And I like the fact that I used to fly inward to avoid, but now do so in search of very specific things. Thanks for stopping by,

I really like that last stanza, Elizabeth. Those dusty layers of memory I can identify with. Alas, the things we save (whether we want to or not). Ah, I haven’t wordled in a while. I don’t know why really, but as you say if you turn away once it is easier to do so another time. I am glad you are carrying on and hope you feel better this week.
Thank you much, my friend. Those layered memories hold so much knowledge, often that which we missed in the moment of happening. I question my sanity, each week, when I once again struggle with the list of words. Perhaps I still have hopes of climbing mountains?

I thought it was deep and reflective, Elizabeth. Thanks for your continued support and contributions at the Whirl. I’m glad you are on the mend.
So am I Brenda. I wasn’t particularly aiming at deep or reflective. More just the stubborn aspect that refuses to be sucker punched by a list of words. As much as I complain, I’m not sure why you are grateful, lol. Thanks for being steadfast, Brenda,

I loved the pairing of words by association, rhyme and meaning with meaning coming only from experience.
Thank you, Old Egg. I have always preferred internal rhyme to end rhyme. I actually started writing out rhyming sounds for this list of words. It helped and at least got me started.

I read a lot of wisdom in this, Elizabeth. I am glad you are on the mend. Take care my friend.

Am trying Pamela. Thank you for finding wisdom here, sometimes the feelings get in the way of actually seeing things that are right in front of ones face.

Elizabeth –
I was surprised to read that you were not at all pleased with this poem. I recognized your determination. No, I felt your determination. I have been a bit low on determination and follow through of late. (my first time back at the wordle since November- Words they would have betrayed too much.) I especially loved:
“seeking to unbalance dusty layers
of experienced and learned
memory, sorted and saved
over decades.”
Thank you Teri, you have been missed. And oh how I understand how words can betray too much. I used to tell my students that if they wrote, on a consistent basis, eventually they would find themselves facing off with those very things they wish most to ignore. I’m not sure they understood, but I felt duty bound to at least prepare them for that reality. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment,

it’s a great start, though…I see how you could want to work on it more, but it is strong in what it is conveying. hope you’re feeling better!
Mama, Robert Bly said there were days when you just had to lower your standards. Guess this was one of mine, lol. I feel much better for having put it out there, rather than turning away and not doing it at all. And thanks so much for your generous words,

This is a beauty, Elizabeth. Sometimes that week away recharges your muse (I know it does mine) and it shows in the flow of your poem. Nicely written.
Much thanks for those generous words Walt, and yes, sometimes a week away helps, other times it just makes it easier to let it all go,

You wrote that you were unsatisfied with this poem, which can be frustrating, and it can be useful sometimes to just get something out. I do think, however, that you really used rhyme and alliteration wonderfully in this poem. I liked reading this aloud and feeling the words. This is good read. (Boo being sick! Glad you are feeling better)
Heidi, am not certain why I am not satisfied with it, perhaps because it lacks a certain level of clear concrete imagery? I am fond of internal rhyme and use it often. Thanks for noticing, and there is always more to learn from any writing we do.
