First Kiss
Knew she was still in love,
and could be ’til the end.
Would never forget scent
of tall marsh grasses, or sight
of them swaying in late afternoon breeze.
Heap of small stones gathered
to hold down corners
of bright-colored tablecloth.
Flick of small wings as insects
skimmed surface of river water.
Knew she fell in love that day
as she filled white pages
with load of words she’d carried,
then buried for years, and would never
forget the feeling of release, ease
that enveloped her, like evening mist,
at that first kiss
of pen on paper.
Elizabeth Crawford 11/25/12
Notes: Always try to use all of the words. Changed fleck to flick to accomadate that. Although the story here is fiction, the feelings and sense of the piece is not.
Nice teasing end to it! Caught me by surprise.
Welcome J Cosmo, and that was the intention. Thanks for stopping by,

I love that image of the pen to paper being ‘that first kiss’. As a child I would get such pleasure from seeing a pristine piece of white paper, or a brand new notebook ready and waiting to be used. I still love starting a new notebook even today.
What a lovely capture this is, even if it is a work of fiction on your part, it could still be real.
Am doing a visual prompt for the poem a day challenge through November. Love what happened when I started playing with this photo and Brenda’s word list seemed to suit it best. Had my first ‘kiss’ when I was four and, like you, that rush of feeling when I first touch pen to paper still exists. Thanks for the comments,
Elizabeth

I agree with your sentiment about that kiss of pen to paper. A keyboard can’t duplicate the magical flow of words direct from your fingers. Nicely written.
There’s a bit of loss on a keyboard, more ease, but somehow less contact. Glad you understand,

Thanks Brenda, for the continued words and inspiration. You are one of a kind,

Marian, once again, I have not been allowed to leave a comment at your cite. Truly sorry. But very glad to see you here,

This is beautiful, Elizabeth. Your poem carries the spirit of first love beautifully…whether it be the love between people or the ‘first kiss of pen on paper.’ Enjoyed this immensely.
That’s exactly what I was aiming for Mary. Thanks so much and glad you enjoyed it,

Oh, I do love a blank page of anything. Now if I could ever fill up a complete book…
I’ve two on this prompt SW 84
The continuing story – (now 30 some odd pages long):

or ‘Other’

After all of these years, I’ve filled any number of notebooks, but there remains that still moment when openning a fresh blanck one,

That last line is a surprise. Dang, I was all thinking the picnic setting is ripe for a first kiss. It must have been lovely to pen thoughts in that kind of environment. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving, Elizabeth.
A nice quiet one Irene, thank you. This poem actually started with the kiss and then had to backtrack to get to it,

How fun to compare a first kiss to a first word kiss.
For anyone who loves writing, I think it is a fair comparison. Loved your take on the image Jlynn,
