For the Sunday Whirl: Wordle #75

Darkening Echo
(for Joan)
You can’t patch a wounded soul with a Band Aid.
Michael Connelly – The Black Echo
Senses life is nothing more
than dried husk, constantly
shook by storms long past.
Bolted at corners by faded
dreams which bring damp
tears, never allowed to be
shed, forever trapped at edge
of existence.
As she slowly climbs stairs,
knows that small bundle
of hope has become heaviest
burden, and whatever remains
will soon be only ash.

Ooooh “small bundle of hope” that will stay with me!
This poem was the result of several pieces of synchronicity. The small bundle of hope is mine and will always be,

That is so dramatic. Excellent wordling.
Thank you Viv. This one came in a flash moments after receiving the word list. It is based in reality and that might be why it came so very swiftly,

You used the words so naturally for your story.
Irene, the story is true and I know the person involved. Was very tempted to do another, but she told me this one was “perfect” because it is real.

A very sweet poem! And the “small bundle of hope” captured my fancy!
Annell, thanks for the visit. I wouldn’t use the word sweet, but each of us sees and hears different things from the same words. It has always been me who carries that small bundle of hope and she seems to know that,

I hope she never lets go of that small bundle, sometimes hope is truly all we have left. Beautiful poetry, great wordling.
Thank you Daydreamer, sometimes hope is the hardest thing to come by making it far more precious somehow,

There’s definitely darkness here, Elizabeth. Your images are strong…she feels so desolate. Hope can be small, but even the smallest bundle can cast a bit of light.
Ahh Brenda, there is definitely darkness in this one. The images are strong because I have seen them and lived with them for many years. And my hope is that the bit of light will win out.

In the end, it’s all ash, isn’t it? It’s a wonder we ever get through this life at all. Laughter helps. 🙂

Thank you for understanding and yes it is a wonder. I also believe that laughter is the best medicine,

I imagined a woman with post-partum depression…not sure if that’s where you were going. Very dramatic.
Paula, sorry not that at all. Rather a soul shattered by DID, otherwise known as Multiple Personality Disorder.

I like the quote by Michael Connelly. And while a soul might not be repaired with a Band Aid perhaps the thin wisps of paper covered with poetic pause can be added to that ‘small bundle of hope.’
I’m here:

Jules, I found the quote (which has a particular trigger for me), the day before I got the wordle words, and had an immediate premonition that the quote would be the beginning of this week’s poem. When she contacted me the next day, I shared the poem and quote with her. She put her seal of approval on it and the rest is here on the page. Thanks for reading and listening,

Wonderfully wordled and I too like the quote by Connelly, it was a good fit …
Thank you very much. I doubt many would understand how ‘good’ a fit it truly is,

Elizabeth, yes, I feel the darkness here. “Small bundle of hope”, that does help. Excellent write.
Pamela
Thank you Pamela, that means a lot coming from you. I was very leery about posting this piece, but now am so glad that I did. I’ve found something in it, and in these comments, that I’ve been searching for for years.

Descriptive and dark . . . I especially liked the strong second stanza. Great write.
Thank you Nan. I hesitated to post it because of the darkness, but then decided that the darkness is why we see the light. It is an intregal part of living and life,

Dark stuff. Hope is often a heavy burden to carry.
Anna :o]
Would have to agree, Anna. Sometimes hope is the heaviest burden. Glad you took the time to visit and read,

the despair was palpable….so very well-done
4joy, thanks for stopping by. Most of us want to turn away from the despair, that doesn’t make it disappear,

It is difficult to write of despair. This is a beautifully written poem.
The list of words certainly seemed to snap into place. Thanks for reading and commenting,

Yes, Elizabeth this poem resounds with the realism of darkness and despair. But I agree with the others that it made for a beautiful wordle.
By the way I love Michael Connelly and the selected quote. He’s an excellent writer ( I read “The Drop”)
You can’t patch a wounded soul with a Band Aid.
Michael Connelly – The Black Echo
Here’s another way I read this statement. Very true, you cannot patch a wounded soul with a Band Aid. But there is a small bundle of hope for healing. Sometimes that’s all we need to get us through the day. Hope is very powerful and sometimes we have to lean on others for it. Our prayers are toward you.
Thank you Benjamin, I’ve been slowly making my way through the Library’s selection of Connelly and enjoying it a great deal. And I agree with your read. Hope is what gets us through the day, sometimes one moment at a time. And thanks for the prayers, they are always appreciated,
