When Butterfly Flutters

“The butterfly effect,” she said. “A small thing in the past makes a big difference in the future.”

The Broken Window
__Jeffrey Deaver

Was kind to her
in long ago past,
but then she left
disappearing into silence.

Now comes back to make
me laugh, to set my soul
to  singing.

How could I know
that small long ago kindness
would set current butterfly
to winging?

Elizabeth Crawford  11/21/11

Note: Have been reading the novel quoted above. Found this quote in it, and knew I would need to use it today. Ahh, synchronicity.

So very true, Elizabeth. We truly do not know what things we do that affect someone’s life sometime in the future. Kind of a awesome thought really, as we hope that what we do affects someone POSITIVELY in the future rather than negatively. It is nice when what one has done returns TO you, as you so well expressed in your poem!

  2. Beautiful poem. I love the laughter and “sets my soul to winging”. Yay! I imagine you have profoundly impacted many many people on your journey. You have impacted me, for sure 🙂
