for A Wordling Whirl of Sundays prompt: Wordle 7
http://sundaywhirl.blogspot.com/
In The Afterglow
Small furred creature burrows
unafraid into his narrow den,
then curves himself round
his own wild scent and sleeps.
While night creeps over land
in gaudy glow of color moving
from deep purple to midnight
blue, then inky black.
Common heart spins away
from dark abyss, murmurs
prayers to unknown sun god,
as last light captures undulating
grasses in lavender echo.
Elizabeth Crawford 6/5/11
Notes: Didn’t really know what to do with these words, then remembered this digital image I had created several weeks ago, and it all fell into place. The Wordle words are abyss, glow, purple, undulate, murmur, spin, inky, gaudy, burrows, unafraid, common, heart.
Wow, Elizabeth – both poem and image are stunning. I love the inky purple art, and the words go with it spectacularly well. Just beautiful.
So glad you enjoyed it Sherry,
Elizabeth

This is beautiful, Elizabeth. I especially like the stanza about light creeping over the land, changing color as it moves.
Thank you Mary and I particularly like those lines myself. Loved your tornado poem,

Love this, especially …
Common heart spins away

prayers to unknown sun god
The words go so well with your image.
I tried a wordling whirl for the first time this week, it was fun. 🙂
Nice work Elizabeth.
Susannah, I didn’t particularly like them at first, but I’ve found they can be both fun and challenging. Glad you enjoyed and welcome aboard the whirl,

Elizabeth, you took these words and turned them into a beautiful scene. How very lovely 🙂
Pamela
Pameala, it wasn’t difficult once I remembered the image. Glad you enjoyed, as I enjoyed what you did with the words.

A lovely pair: image and poem, irrespective of your thoughtful use of the wordle words. I particularly liked the sensory “curves himself round
his own wild scent”
Thank you Viv. I wanted to open with the critter for some reason and I like that idea that one’s own scent creates a sense of safety.

A story in shades of color!
Irene, when it went through my head, I thought of deep water, then looked at the image and realized it fit just fine. Glad you like it,

I was curious to see what you would do with “undulates” and “common”. Those were the words I found hardest to incorporate. I love the feel of your poem. I thought I would keep coming back to the night images, as I am fond of those, but I have been captured by:
then curves himself round
his own wild scent and sleeps
margo
Thank you Margo, I had some questions about those two as well. But they found a way to fit in with what I had set up. And I do like those particular lines about the wild scent. Glad you enjoyed it,

“Common heart spins away

prayers to unknown sun god,

I love the dream land you projected; the tucking oneself in, the trance like
purple wave you painted.
“While night creeps over land
in gaudy glow of color moving
from deep purple to midnight
blue, then inky black”
We all want the echo of our dreams to come back to us, when we awake!
I loved it!
Thanks Ellen, it is one of my favorite images and I loved that it came to mind with these words. It really helped to focus my thoughts. Besides they really are my favorite colors, with a bit of green thrown in for good measure, lol. So glad you enjoyed it. Dreams always have some value and meaning.

Elizabeth, I love the ending, the “undulating / grasses in lavender echo” – and also “curves himself round / his own wild scent” – such great imagery.
Richard
Richard, I really do love the color purple (including the book by that title), for a lot of reasons and this wordle gave me an excuse to show off this image that I also like a great deal. I also liked your poem about the purple dress and the sometimes mysterious behavior of human beings. I once had a man sit down and read through some of my poetry. His only comment, after doing so, was that I seemed to use a lot of color in my poetry and he might have to try that in one of his future writings. Having read some of his stuff, I thought it might help, but wasn’t too sure. I thought the lavender echo was a wonderful way to close the poem. Thank you for mentioning it and glad you enjoyed, I do enjoy reading what you create,

Ah, I do like that curving back on his own scent idea. And the final line is especially fine. Of course, you do use the wordle words neatly.
Thanks, although we do these each week, it still astounds me how many different paths people find to take these same words down. Your sassy girl reading Burroughs was a delight. Glad you enjoyed,

Oh Elizabeth, this makes me gasp in its beauty. I absolutely love that the creature wraps himself up in his own fur, and then later, the lavender echo. Strong piece, the words flow free.
~Brenda
Brenda, thank you, but you must take some of the credit for coming up with these particular words that came together so well with the image,
