For NaPoWriMo – day 11
Finding Home
And so, our traveler moves
on, knowing her memories
are rich tapestry, each night
carefully unraveled. Now,
understands that each step
taken is another stitch woven
into its ultimate wholeness.
Laughs when she remembers
how she once feared aloneness,
gloomy cobwebs of scattering,
scrambling ashes, at thought
of never belonging. Feeble
feeling at possible end in some
corrugated hovel, far from
anything so crucial as home.
She had learned from her journey.
It was only a word that once
hummed with other meanings.
In another time, was defined
as all one. Something her very
soul yearned toward. Fullness
that spilled forth, like dandelion
fluff, in seeds of story, bits
of music about seeking,
sometimes quiet weeping.
She belongs to the Universe,
and the Universe made its abode
inside her being. All one, gave
each step new meaning. New
color and texture, at finding
home, right here within her.

Notes: Thanks to Brenda W. for her Sunday wordle challenge. I used all twelve of them: laugh, corrugated, gloomy, hum, cobwebs, hovels, dandelion, scrambling, ash, feeble, crucial, words. The word alone, finds its beginning in the Old English all one. What can I say, I’m a word freak? But also once again, want to thank those who come and comment on these poems. In responding to those comments, I often find the seeds of more poetry. I love it when things come together in that fashion. And thank you all for taking this journey with me.

It is amazing how you’ve managed to turn such a strange group of words into a meaningful journey poem. I do prefer solitude to aloneness (as a word, I mean)
Confession? Some words seem to bring with them, a sense of dread or fear. “Alone” was one of them for me. So I played with it, confronting my fear, and settled on aloneness, which seemed, to me, to address the quality or condition of being alone, but somehow took the sting out of the word. Then came to realize that I had never feared my chosen periods of solitude, and that was the beginning of real awareness for me. And about the poem. I had a draft in process when I came on Brenda’s wordle. Those disparate words really filled in the draft and completed what I had been trying to say. I love synchronicity. Thank you Viv, for your encouraging support,

Following your journey! Fear of being alone and then finding home within oneself…oh so true.
Thank you Irene, for following along and for listening and relating. Good companions are needed on each and every journey, even the one to self,

I like that you have a whole collection of travellers’ tales, like Bunyan and Chaucer.
Thanks Tilly Bud, but methinks you are putting me in rather rarified company. Just me, singing my own song, seems I’ve always done that somehow,

WOW, Elizabeth, this one really speaks to me. I, too, used to fear being alone – which is why I had to learn the lesson, this lifetime, of becoming all one. I love the line “I belong the the Universe.” SO beautiful!!!!!! One of my faves!
Thank you Sherry, for being here, for being you.

I am enjoying the traveller’s journey and the way she comes to terms with her aloneness. I love the way all of these cards are weaving a tale, Elizabeth.
Mary, I think you are right, they certainly seem connected. And I am certainly enjoying doing them, as well. Thanks for stopping in and I appreciate it, more than you know,

It takes some of us nearly a lifetime to learn the truth of these words. Brilliant!
Gloria, I so agree, it has.
