Statement of Fact

Have no Bucket List.
Still have some wishes,
but the doing of them
is no longer capable
of being done.

Lack physical, financial
resources to plot a course
other than the one
I am on.

Don’t feel bad, don’t waste
a moment of sadness
over what you might
consider an unjust plight.

For this old woman
is happy, even content
doing whatever I can,
being the best of all
that I am, in this
present moment.

    Oh I so hear you – the “no longer capable of being done”……..and the being all right with it because the present moment is….the present moment, and rich enough. GREAT one, Elizabeth. I love it.

    Thanks Sherry, I really struggled with this one. Started out trying to do an actual list and could feel myself sliding down because of all the things I can no longer do. Especically since I am far more content than I have ever been. Once I got that far, I knew what I had to write,

    That’s exactly it, Elizabeth. There are loads of things I would have loved to do years ago, but now, contentment and creativity are the most valuable assets.

    So many who commented here seem to feel the same way. Contentment and enjoyment of the momeht is the key, and yes…as Gautami says, we CAN write poetry to change the world…OUR world anyway. Your poem is nicely stated, Eliabeth. (But you are not an ‘old woman.’ Banish that term.)

    Mary, have you ever read the poem, or book, titled “When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple”? I love that attitude and have waited a long time to find it inside myself. I wear it as a banner of achievement and will do so for as long as possible, lol. Thanks for your words, they are always so encouraging,

    Being happy with our everydays – that’s a great and lucky fate, I believe. As for dreaming… well, my father always said: “One needs to have dreams. If they all come true, then what?” 🙂 Well, he was joking, of course, especially when my childhood wishes poured over him and mom.
    A bit melancholy, yet such a nice piece. Thanks!
