Of Dreams and Visions

In response to Claudette’s Weekly Writing Challenge #9 : Visionary

This piece was originally inspired by images at the Flexwriters Cafe at Myspace. I tweaked it a bit and suddenly realized that it works for the writing challenge at  http://claudetteellinger.wordpress.com/

Of Dreams and Visions

His name is Seth
and he always wears a partial mask
so that others, assuming they know,
don’t need to ask
what he might be thinking.

Each night he dreams
of a stream-lined emptied room
that holds only a bed with satin
sheets, and a beautiful woman
waiting to move through, in,
and around him like molten lava.

His name is Seth, but he calls
himself, “Mr. Invisible,” as he roams
the streets, often sleeping somewhere
in that home without walls.

Knows he is racing against time,
bending to touch, yet never fully
immersed in life’s waters, wasting
moments, days, even weeks
in seemingly senseless motion.

His name is Seth and he carries
a notion, sometimes whispers,
“Is this a dream?” This land in which
he exists but never fully awakens.

Where, each night, before he closes
his eyes, finds himself praying for a vision
of hope, because his name is Seth
and he knows that he knows,
that name means he has been
“appointed.”
